Nominations are open for the 2019 Pacific Media Workers Guild Elections
The Executive Committee of the Pacific Media Workers Guild, Local 39521 officially opens the nomination period for our Local leadership positions, from October 15th to November 16th, 2019.
The Local elections are held every 2 years and governed by our Bylaws in conjunction with the NewsGuild and CWA Bylaws. Offices up for election include:
The Local Executive Committee
- First Vice President
- California Vice President
- Hawaii Vice President
Additionally, each Unit will elect Officers to
- Vice Chair
Unit Chairs are part of the Local Representative Assembly. Units with more than 50 members can elect an additional Representative Assembly member, including the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Jose Mercury News, the Freelance Unit, and the Honolulu Star Advertiser.
Units should plan to hold a member meeting during the nomination period between October 15th and November 16th.
Members in good standing can submit nominations in 3 ways:
- Directly to the Local Elections committee via the online Nomination Form
- From the floor of your Unit Member Meeting or
- From the floor of the Local’s November 16th Membership Meeting
Nominations will officially close at the PMWG General Membership Meeting on November 16th.
If an office is uncontested (only 1 candidate nominated) that candidate will be deemed “elected” on Nov. 16. There will be a four day period following the meeting, where members can submit additional nominations by petition to firstname.lastname@example.org. If more than one person is nominated for a position, the Local will mail paper ballots to members.
Ballots close at Noon on December 10th and will be counted by the Local Election Committee that afternoon at the Local, starting at 3 pm. Elected Officers will take office on January 1, 2020.
