The California Federation of Interpreters has reached tentative agreements in two of the three regions bargaining new contracts. CFI, a unit of the Guild, represents about 850 interpreters employed in California courts.
The Bay News Rising Student Union and the Pacific Media Workers Guild reached a collective bargaining agreement Tuesday after an hour of negotiations.
Guild proposal reflected concerns from a member survey, recent small-group meetings and an internal analysis of payroll data. Since 2008 members have suffered a 14.25 percent loss in inflation-adjusted dollars, increased to 16.1 percent with inclusion of lost vacation.
Three days of negotiations over the past week led to a few new agreements and a much better understanding of key remaining issues for the bargaining teams.
A federal mediator was brought into the Chronicle-Guild negotiations in a renewed effort to settle terms of a new labor contract at the newspaper.
