CURRENT STATUS OF COLLECTIVE BARGAINING WITH HEARST
July 17, 2013
In current bargaining, Hearst Corporation has offered Chronicle Guild members a 1.5% pay increase for each of the 5 years running from July 1, 2012 and benefits coverage that is “same as management.”
Under the Hearst proposal, HealthNet will no longer be an option, although there is a similar-looking Cigna PPO option. Kaiser would remain an option, but it will cost you more for your share of the premium payments, especially if you have family coverage. New high deductible health care plans will be available, as well as various health care spending accounts that would allow you to set aside your own pre-tax wages for health care expenses. Dental and vision plans would be available, at an additional expense to you.
Click here for a comparison of employee premiums that you would pay under the Hearst plan beginning January 2014 and what you have been paying into the Guild Health and Welfare Trust plan for 2013.
Below are the summary documents for Hearst’s health, dental and vision plans 2013.
Take a look at this list of documents and become familiar with their contents. And, then ask yourself, “How will my family’s health care change if Guild employees choose to join the Hearst health care system?”
