May Day events

May Day (May 1) is celebrated throughout the world but it started in Chicago in the fight for the 8 hour work day. For our members, the fight for an 8 hour day is as relevant today as it was in 1886. Bay Area longshore workers will be closing down all ports in the Bay Area to commemorate May Day. All workers are under attack including our membership which has been decimated with one cutback after another in the newspaper. Let’s join together on May Day at Howard Terminal at 1 Market St. in Oakland at 11:00 AM and demand a fight against gentrification and attacks on unionized Maritime labor. Sara Nelson, the president of the Airline Flight Attendants will be a the keynote speaker, so let’s have a good turnout for our fellow CWA member and leader.
