Position Available at the Guild

Title: Administrative Officer
Term: Permanent Position
Start Date: April 15, 2019 (approximate)

Pacific Media Workers Guild, TNG-CWA LOCAL 39521, a San Francisco-based labor union affiliated with The NewsGuild-CWA, seeks a qualified individual to serve as Administrative Officer.

This position requires administrative, budgeting and staff-management skills and experience, along with proven competency in two or more of the following: Contract negotiations, contract enforcement and administration, NLRB processes, new unit organizing, membership communications (print and online) and use of social media as a tool of worker advocacy.

Local 39521 is one of the largest units of TNG-CWA with a long and proud history representing workers in the news industry, language interpreting and translating, social justice and labor organizations. Background in one or more of our represented industries would be a major plus for any candidate. Strong writing and online communication skills are a must.
Our office is located in downtown San Francisco. We have an administrative/support staff and outside legal counsel. Our budgetary position is strong but we face many challenges due to the ongoing assault on the labor movement — challenges the Administrative Officer will be expected to meet in innovative ways.

We offer competitive pay and benefits, depending on experience. This is a non-represented salaried/exempt position. Hiring will be overseen by a subcommittee of local leaders appointed by the Local 39521 Executive Committee. The Administrative Officer will serve at the pleasure of the Executive Committee which will set terms and provide policy guidance and support.
