State Senate Bill 98 is law. So now what?

A teleconference to be presented Wednesday, March 23, by the Guild Freelancers, a unit of the Pacific Media Workers Guild*.

A California law in effect as of the new year bars law enforcement officers from interfering with journalists covering civil disturbances. How much protection does the law, state Senate Bill 98, actually provide to journalists, both in legal terms and out on the street?

Join us in a teleconference on Wednesday, March 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., to hear a First Amendment lawyer and a freelance photojournalist, veterans in their respective professions, offer observations and advice.

The panelists:

David Snyder, executive director of the San Rafael-based First Amendment Coalition, who is an attorney and former reporter.

Brooke Anderson, an Oakland-based photographer and photojournalist whose work has appeared in a plethora of public, corporate and alternative media.

Discussion moderator: Richard Knee, a San Francisco-based freelance journalist who chairs the Pacific Media Workers Guild’s Legislative and Political Committee and is long active with First Amendment and government transparency advocacy organizations.

There’s no admission fee for the event, but we’re asking you to RSVP if you want to participate. Please click here to do so and we’ll send you the Zoom link.
