The Pacific Media Workers Guild is excited to announce the recipients of the 2024-25 Guild Scholarship.
This year, Annabel Crescibene and Grace Gafni will receive $500 each toward their college educations. For more than a decade our scholarship program — started in memory of late Guild leader Russ Cain — has benefitted guild members and their families, largely thanks to generous contributions from our Retiree Unit members.
Crescibene is a senior at Cal Poly Humboldt where she’s majoring in sociology with a minor in women’s studies. Her father, Chris Crescibene, who also attended Cal Poly Humboldt, has been a Guild member for more than 20 years at the San Francisco Chronicle. Annabel will use this award to help pay for her final year at Humboldt and plans to get a master’s degree in library sciences.
“I’d like to say thank you so much for this award — I’m truly honored to be receiving it,” she said.
Gafni attends San Diego State and majors in Journalism-Advertising and plans to get into media or marketing after college. She also enjoys playing water polo in her spare time. She hopes to follow in the footsteps of her father, Matthias Gafni, who is an investigative reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle.
“I’d like to thank all the members of the Guild for selecting me for the scholarship!” Gafni said. “In particular, I’d like to thank Russ Cain’s family, as well as acknowledging the memory of Charlie Tobias. You are all very kind.”
