International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. www.internationalwomensday.com
On this International Women’s Day, many are choosing to celebrate by showing people what our world would be like without women. Organizers are calling it, “A Day Without A Woman.”
It’s being put together by the same people who led the Women’s March on Washington that followed the Inauguration of President Donald Trump.
Organizers say the point of “A Day Without A Woman” is for people to recognize the value women add to our socioeconomic system, while experiencing inequities, such as lower wages and discrimination.
Organizers say you can participate in one or all of the following ways:
- Take the day off
- Avoid shopping for the day unless you’re supporting small, women-owned or minority-owned business
- Wear red in solidarity
- Use #DayWithoutAWoman to spread the word
