The San Francisco Living Wage Coalition is presenting its Labor Man of the Year Award to Guild member David Bacon at their 11th annual awards dinner on Friday, July 30, 6pm to 9pm.
Bacon is a writer and photographer, former factory worker and union organizer. He documents workers, migration, and the struggle for human rights. His latest book, In the Fields of the North/En los campos del norte (University Of California 2017), documents the lives of farmworkers in photographs and oral histories.
He is co-chair of Guild Freelancers, our union’s freelance unit, and was board chair of the Northern California Coalition for Immigrant Rights. He has been an activist for immigrant, labor and human rights for many years.
This event, part of the month-long Labor Fest commemorating the 1934 General Strike with cultural and musical performances, will take place as an online Zoom event.
Take-out dinners can be picked up at San Jalisco restaurant at 901 South Van Ness Avenue at 20th Street (ph 415-648-8383) to help support a family-owned restaurant that has supported labor and the community. Tickets will be sent electronically, or by mail if requested, which can be redeemed at the restaurant on any convenient date.
To buy a ticket, please go to San Francisco Living Wage Coalition website. Ticket prices are $35 per ticket in advance or a group rate of $250 for eight tickets in advance bought by July 26.
