The Executive Committee of the Pacific Media Workers Guild, Local 39521, officially opened the nomination period for our Local leadership positions on Oct. 21. The nomination period will close Nov. 18.
The Local elections are held every two years and governed by our Bylaws in conjunction with the NewsGuild and CWA Bylaws.
Offices up for election include:
The Local Executive Committee
- President
- First Vice President
- California Vice President
- Hawaii Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
Additionally, each Unit will elect Officers:
- Chair
- Vice Chair
- Secretary
Unit Chairs are part of the Local Representative Assembly. Units with more than 50 members can elect an additional Representative Assembly member, including the San Francisco Chronicle and Freelance Unit.
Members in good standing can submit nominations in three ways:
- Directly to the Local Elections committee via the online Nomination Form
- From the floor of your Unit Member Meeting
- From the floor of the Local’s Nov. 18 Membership Meeting (Agenda | Zoom Link)
Nominations will officially close at the PMWG General Membership Meeting on Nov. 18.
If an office is uncontested (only one candidate nominated) that candidate will be deemed “elected” on Nov. 18. There will be a four-day period following the meeting where members can submit additional nominations by petition to vote@mediaworkers.org.
If more than one person is nominated for a position, the Local will mail paper ballots to members. Ballots close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 19 and will be counted by the Local Election Committee that evening at the Local, starting at 5 pm.
Elected Officers will take office on January 1, 2024.
